Message from our Intergroup Chair
As the current chair of the Wiltshire and Bath Alcoholics Anonymous Intergroup, I’m grateful for the Convention Committee and our groups, which have enabled this Convention to be held and have worked hard to put it together.
By coming together, we strengthen our ability to fulfill our common primary purpose. It’s a chance to connect with fellow members, learn from each other’s journeys, and find renewed inspiration in our shared recoveries – whether we are many years sober or just one day.
What is Intergroup?
Many coming to the Convention may not know what an Intergroup is or what it does, so this is also an opportunity to shine a light on that part of the service structure.
Intergroups play a vital role in the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) structure, serving as a crucial link between individual AA groups and the wider AA community. These service committees coordinate and support local AA activities, ensuring that the hand of AA is always there when someone reaches out for help.
Intergroups also facilitate communication between groups, maintain local AA websites and helplines, organize events, and coordinate literature distribution. They also manage public information efforts through hospitals, employer networks, the armed forces, schools, doctors’ surgeries, and prisons, helping to spread the message of recovery to those still suffering from alcoholism.
Get involved
Getting involved with your local intergroup is a rewarding way to give back and strengthen your own sobriety. You can start by attending intergroup meetings, which are open to all AA members. You can also encourage your home-group to have a General Service Representative (GSR) which is your group’s link to Intergroup.
By participating in intergroup service, you not only support AA’s primary purpose but also connect with a wider network of recovering alcoholics, enhancing your own journey in sobriety.
Join us in unity and service as we carry the message of AA forward.
